Mojitos at Rossini - talked in to the trap

Rossini is one of the restaurant/bars in the square that you are bound to pass if you venture in to the Gothic area. Simply put, it´s a tourist trap, but (of course) we got a "special price" (€5 including a free shot) from the guy on the square trying to fill the bar. So we put it through the test.


Despite being a small mojito made of cheap, white rum, it passed the "drinkable" level. Perhaps the small quantity of rum was a good feature. It contained lime and mint, and slightly crushed ice-cubes. It was a refreshing drink on a hot summer night, with a mildly said interesting view on the square at 3 am.

Bo - No deu anar pel mojito...

El bo és un restaurant-bar situat a la plaça de la Vila de Gràcia, un lloc ideal per prendre un mojito a la terrassa amb vistes al rellotge de la plaça i sense cotxes...malgrat el personal estrafalàri i intoxicat que pot ser que se t'assegui al costat (aconsellem triar taula allunyada dels bancs).


Ara bé, no sabem què és el que és bo a aquest restaurant, el que us assegurem és que els mojitos...no.

El mojito aparentment portava els ingredients típics: sucre, menta, llima, rom (però dolent dolent...), gel de dauets petits...no vam poder veure com el preparaven (coses de les terrasses).

Un altre suspens a Gràcia...que malauradament a dia d'avui lidera l'apartat de suspensos per barris!

Cal destacar la simpatia del cambrer, però un mojito dolent és dolent, i a mojitop som implacables en les nostres avaluacions.

You know the feeling of Salou? or Lloret? Platja d'Aro? - well, they apparently have exactly the same in France :)
Juan les Pins is a touristic site - where you can find zillions of apartments where to spend the holidays - and very little to do apparently off-season.

Anyway, we headed to a party where there were going to be mojitos prepared by a Colombian guy - but it seems we got too late to the party (it was like 23.30) and almost everyone left. Actually it looked like noone was left so we didn't even knock on the door. Sooo...we headed to the bars downtown to at least have a drink.

And we did! Here's the description of the mojito!

All in all it was an "ok" mojito - it was fresh and minty, had all the right ingredients - but it was simply not great. Sometimes the mix just isn't good enough ...

This was the last mojito we had in our trip to the Côte d'Azur - as a general remark we have to say mojitos weren't so great and they were extremely expensive (compared to what we're used to, that is...). So maybe when you go to Nice & surroundings, try Absynth (we did!) or something else...

Mojito at "The Thor"

So here comes the story: Some mojitop.com members travelled recently to the Côte d'Azur, and of course included mojito-trials in their program.

Here is the review of the first of them, that we tried in a bar in the pedestrian part of Nice.

About the mojito:

- large glass

- had lime

- had mint

- ice was crushed

- had rum?¿?

- had soda

- had white sugar

and as extra it had some candy (as seen on the picture)

What it didn't have was any taste of mojito! It tasted like minted sweet water!!

For the price we payed, we would expect an extra-great mojito - but it wasn't. It didn't have much rum, also not enough mint, and we guess too much ice and soda - so the flavour was totally killed and made a watery mojito.

So no, don't travel to Nice to try their mojitos!! We have to say that drinks in general in the area were expensive (a beer costed easily 6€), but at least with some you have the guarantee that they'll be good (at least average) and not watery...

On the other side, the bar was very nice! It was partly ambiented as an irish pub but also had discording notes - so we couln't totally define what the story was there.

The very nice part was that on the upper floor there was a life band playing - and they were quite good! Especially remarcable performance of their singer - if anyone reads this post and knows the name of the band, please share it! Their selection of songs was very pleasant and we had a nice time there (despite the mojito!)

We tried another mojito on our trip..but that'll be reported in another post :)

Mojitos i futbol al TRÍPTIC

Aquest bar al carrer mozart és un típic bar gracienc. Estret i petit, tot i que té força espai a l'interior. Destacarem que té unes quantes pantalles on avui en concret hi havia posa el futbol (valència 3, madrid 0).

Sobre el mojito, hem estat atents a la seva preparació:

- Got tamany estàndard

- Sucre blanc al fons del got

- 2 taps de "pulco" (concentrat de llimona)

- menta fresca

* Amb el morter, matxaca la menta i desfà el sucre en el líquid

- Gel (didalets petits)

- Rom (Havana club 3 anys blanc)

- Més gel

- Acaba d'omplir amb "casera"

Canyeta verda normal, tallada per tenir-la a mida de mojito (una d'elles havia quedat pinçada al tallar-la i al principi no permetia xuclar)

Com a punt positiu, el cambrer es va interessar si ens agradava. Davant la crítica de la falta de llima (com podreu comprovar en la llista d'ingredients, no n'hi havia...), ha afegit una mica més de Pulco en un dels gots. Millorava força, pero seguia faltant el gust característic de la llima.

Mojito correcte, no especialment recomanat per una expedició de moment.

Al centre de Barcelona, hi ha una gelateria, que té gelats de diversos sabors - alguns típics i d'altres força estranys.
I naturalment, ténen gelat de mojito!!

2 mojixp's hi van anar fa no gaire a tastar-lo. Té gust bàsicament a llima amb una mica de menta. Està força bo i és refrescant. Hem proposat de cara a l'estiu fer-hi una visita per tal de fer un tast com déu mana.

Qui no pren mojito és perquè no vol, perquè s'està demostrant que n'hi ha de totes formes i colors!!

Salambó - mojitos recomanats

So...while telling a friend about this website, she immediately proposed: you have to try Salambó, they have really good mojitos there!!

I coudln't resist the temptation, so the next night out I proposed some mojibaby friends to go pay it a visit, as we were quite close to the place anyway.

The athmosphere was very relaxed, the place was quiet and on the ground floor smoking is not allowed - so you don't feel the urge to shower once you get home - it's alway a nice feeling.

The mojito was definitely gooood. Lime, mint, small ices - and a very balanced taste. Very refreshing.

I visited it last Thursday, and in the meantime we already conquered this bar, I won't give a long detailed info - check this page in a few days, more details on Salambó coming up.

LA VINERIA

We visited tonight this little little bar in Gràcia. We knew it from before, but didn't recall trying its mojitos.

We want to highlight the great atmosphere its bartender (and owner, we believe) gives to it. You can eat a slice of pizza for just 1€ - and they had other offers but i didn't pay much attention to it.

About the mojitos:

Ok, it didn't follow the pure traditional recipe (the bartender is italian, not cuban!) but the result was really nice. Quite sweet, a bit more of rum wouln't have been the worst thing, but it was nice and refreshing. The size was rather generous - and we got to see the end of the basketball match in the bar!!

Ah - - the bar is REALLY small, so it is not recommended for big groups.

Vam entrar a les 2:45 i nos en va voler servir cap mojito. La cambrera deia que deixen de fer còctels a les 2:00 (tot i que el bar tanca a les 3:00). No em sembla una bona actitud --> no es recomana per exploració oficial

Tienen jarras de mojito ya hechas en el congelador para poder servirlas rápidamente. Y con tanta gente puede ser necesario. Pero baja la puntuación.

Mucha menta, lima, azúcar blanco, ron blanco.
Hielo bien picado.

Bien preparado. Bonito. Sabor rico. Pero lo de las jarras da un toque industrial...

A parte me gusta el sitio porque en el area del bar no se fuma. Vuelves a casa sin apestar a chimenea. Y aun hay mucha gente y muy buen rollo.

Resultat gens satisfactori. Gust massa fort, sucre no desfet, no es notava el gust de llima ni de menta. No recomanat per incloure en expedicions oficials d'avaluació.
