MOJITOP.COM is just a group of friends rooted in Barcelona, who would like to contribute to improve the level of the mojitos in the city.
We like to do expeditions in the city, and sometimes we invite the blog followers.
If you have suggestions, you are more than welcome to share them with us too!
We like to "conquer" Bars, which means to visit them and evaluate their mojitos.
About barris, we often visit Gràcia, Poble Sec, Raval and Born, but we've also been to more exotic places like Eixample and Barceloneta.
To explore all the possibilities, we also try out different recipes for mojitos and their variations.
Also from time to time we'll report on curisities related to mojitos, like the mojitos we taste in other cities.
Interviews and stories about interesting people are in this blog.

Preu: 5€
Nota mitjana: 7 (by 3 mojixp's i 1 convidat)

Però "all in all" força correcte.

Mojitos at ELSA BAR - Cuban but below expectations

Address: Torrent de l'Olla 78 (Gràcia)

After visiting the Raïm bar, we jumped two doors away and went to another well-known Cuban bar: Elsa Bar.

Let's describe the mojitos:
  • White rum Ypióca
  • Dark rum Porthos
  • Lemon Syrup (Pulco)
  • White sugar
  • Fresh mint
  • No lime
  • Small ice cubes
  • Angostura
  • Small glass
  • With a straw and a shaker-mixer stick
  • 6€
If you have read the review for the Raïm bar, I'm sure the above mentioned items ringed you a bell...YES--> It was basically the same! A bit less disappointing but still below expectations.

Average mark: 6.3 (out of max. 10 points; evaluated by 4 mojiexperts and 2 nice invited people)

The mojito lacked lime, without any doubt. Pulco is just not good!

Elsa Bar is quite small and it was very crowded. It was too crowded, actually, and adding the cigarettes' smoke, it wasn't comfortable at all: after half an hour it was even stifling!

The bar is decorated with photos and documents, many about Cuba and about a blond woman singing. The blond woman was actually at the bar, looking at the people in silence beside the person who was preparing the mojitos. She must be Elsa.

Mojitos at RAÏM - excessive fame, poor result

Address: Progrès 48 (Gràcia)

After the suggestion left in our comments box by Lauren, Mojitop had the mission to go and see this famous bar and go and taste its famous mojitos!

Description of the mojito:
  • Small ice cubes, but the waiter smashed the ice cubes bag with a rolling pin before opening it
  • White and dark rum (first white, then dark)
  • Fresh mint
  • Long glass, like for "cubatas" or "cañas"
  • Soda
  • White sugar
  • Lemon syrup: Pulco
  • Angostura
  • With a straw and a shaker-mixer stick
  • Average mark: 5.7 (out of max. 10 points; evaluated by 4 mojiexperts and 2 guests)
  • Price: 5 €
As you can imagine by the above-mentioned mark, this mojito was very disappointing. We expected something better because the bar looks something different... but life is hard :-( The mojito didn't look any attractive and didn't taste any special. It didn't even match the recipe the bar's website!

There was a woman "producing" tens of mojitos, with an industrial concentration. One of us even tried to talk to her but it was definitely impossible, she is a mojito-machine!

About the place, let's say that it's like drinking a mojito in the metro at the rush hour. Can you imagine it? Really uncomfortable, people pushing you and your drink, too hot, you are constantly looking about your walet to see if it's still there and you just want to get out of there.

Apart from that, the decoration is Cuban: flags all around, virgin Mary statues, framed pictures and letters, etc. The music was not very good, but it didn't matter because it was too crowded to listen to it.

-->We recommend to all the people who were drinking mojitos there, to go and try other bars in Gràcia, like Salambó, Limbus or Pájaro Loco: they are much better!

Mojitos at KE - freshness in la Barceloneta

Address: C/Baluard 54 (Barceloneta)

In our Barceloneta night we visited first this bar, very well know as after-beach relaxing place: Ke.

Description of the mojitos we drank:

- Fresh lime
- Fresh mint
- Small ices cubes
- White rum Porthos
- Big size
- With Schweppes lemonade
- Nice straw, looks like a laser
- Mixed in a cocktail shaker
- 6 €
- Average mark: 6.5 (out of max 10 points; evaluated by 3 mojiexperts and 2 advanced learners)

It was good, but nothing special at all, because it didn't have enough flavour. It was especially shocking to feel the taste of the Schweppes lemonade, which shouldn't be in a mojito!

The place was quite nice. It seems to be even better in the late afternoon-evening, because it has very big windows and doors and is quite close to the sea, but still hidden in the small streets.

About the decoration, we'd like to highlight that there were ikea tables hung from the ceiling. :-O

  • Sense llima
  • Sucre
  • Amb una canyeta-cullera per remenar
  • Tamany mitjà
  • Preu= 6€

MOJITO and BIKES in Berlin :)

One of our collaborators flied recently to Berlin, where he discovered something we didn't know about! mojito bikes!

Our guess is that it's a way for drivers to feel closer to mojitos - since they cannot drink them when they have to drive ...

If you know about other items related to mojitos, let us know!

A queue for cocktails in Rome

I spent the weekend in Rome, where I got to visit the peculiar cocktail bar Bum Bum di Mel, which has an orderly queuing system for cocktails. First you get in the queue to order and pay, then they give you a number and you wait with the crowd in the street, carefully watching the digital number panel displaying when your turn will come. For being Rome, this is an amazingly orderly structure. Of course the cocktails are not prepared in the order they were ordered – that would be just too organized – but you have to keep a constant eye on the display for the 15 minutes it can take to get your drink. When we finally got our plastic cups with mojitos, I wished I had ordered one of their specialities, like the daiquiris, instead. The mojito consisted of 10 cl of white rum and 5 cl ginger ale, with some mint and berries on top, and big ice cubes floating around. It did not taste bad, but it was not a mojito. Anyway, I recommend the place for the experience at the beginning of a crazy evening – you sure get your money worth.

Mojitos at SALAMBÓ - risky but great

Following the suggestion of the previous post from Anna, we finally conquered Salambó!

It is in Torrijos 51 (Gràcia), quite close to the Verdi Park Cinema. It is a good post-cinema option!

Details about the mojito:
  • Standard size in round glass
  • White rum: "Perlas"
  • Without lime
  • Fresh mint, squeezed (but not too much: it won't get inside your teeth)
  • 2 black straws, each
  • Small ice cubes
  • Sugar, very well mixed with the rest
  • Angostura
  • With orange slices on the top! :-O
  • 5€
It was indeed a risky mojito, and in the beginning we all looked at it disappointed....but it turned out to be really good! All the flavours were nicely mixed and the result was a very refreshing mojito.

Average mark: 7,25 (out of max 10 points; evaluated by 3 mojiexperts and 1 guest)

Also the bar is really recommendable. Its lower floor is for non-smokers and the top floor is for smokers. Also to be highlighted: nice music and free wifi!

Mojitos i futbol al TRÍPTIC

Preu: 5€
c/ Mozart 4

- Gel (didalets petits)
- Rom (Havana club 3 anys blanc)

I naturalment, ténen gelat de mojito!!

2 mojixp's hi van anar fa no gaire a tastar-lo.

c/ Torrijos 51
Price: 5€

So...while telling a friend about this website, she immediately proposed: you have to try Salambó, they have really good mojitos there!!

I coudln't resist the temptation, so the next night out I proposed some mojibaby friends to go pay it a visit, as we were quite close to the place anyway.

The athmosphere was very relaxed, the place was quiet and on the ground floor smoking is not allowed - so you don't feel the urge to shower once you get home - it's alway a nice feeling.

The mojito was definitely gooood. Lime, mint, small ices - and a very balanced taste. Very refreshing.

I visited it last Thursday, and in the meantime we already conquered this bar, I won't give a long detailed info - check this page in a few days, more details on Salambó coming up.

Mojitos at B.O.- Mojitos and Virgin mojitos

C/ de Blai 8, Poble Sec
Happy hour everyday from 23:00 till 1:00

Mojito description:
  • Small ice cubes, shaped like thimbles
  • White sugar
  • White rum
  • Straws in different colours, nice ones
  • Medium size
  • A little bit of fresh mint, but not enough
  • A little bit of fresh lime, but not enough
  • 3 € (in happy hour, actually it was 2x6€)
  • Average mark: 5.5 (out of max 10; evaluated by 3 mojiexperts)
The problem in this mojito was that it didn't have any flavour, not good not bad, just taste, it really felt like water with ice and something else. It was a pity because he bar was no really nice, like a cosy flat where you can feel comfortable. It is decorated with different chairs and sofas, and with one of those shiny balls like in the old discos.

The waitress was also really nice, and she even prepared a virgin mojito after our request (which was better than the normal mojitos...).

Mojitos at EL COPETÍN - latin atmosphere in a long glass

Passeig del Born 19

Mojito description:
  • White rum
  • White sugar
  • Crashed ice
  • No lime, but it did have a lot of citric flavour, so we suppose there was
  • A bunch of mint on the top
  • Original appearance, served in a "tubo" glass (long, typically used for cocktails [cubatas] or beer [caña])
  • Shabby straw
  • 7 €
  • Average mark: 6.2 (evaluated by 3 mojiexperts)
It's a latin place for everyone. Nice music and tables to sit and relax. It was quite crowded but still comfortable.

They serve the drinks with pop corn (for free), which they keep refilling (for free!). This is really a nice exception in Barcelona (here nothing is for free!).

We recommend to visit this place combined with Miramelindo, which is just 2 steps away.
