MOJITOP.COM is just a group of friends rooted in Barcelona, who would like to contribute to improve the level of the mojitos in the city.
We like to do expeditions in the city, and sometimes we invite the blog followers.
If you have suggestions, you are more than welcome to share them with us too!
We like to "conquer" Bars, which means to visit them and evaluate their mojitos.
About barris, we often visit Gràcia, Poble Sec, Raval and Born, but we've also been to more exotic places like Eixample and Barceloneta.
To explore all the possibilities, we also try out different recipes for mojitos and their variations.
Also from time to time we'll report on curisities related to mojitos, like the mojitos we taste in other cities.
Interviews and stories about interesting people are in this blog.

Mojitop in Italy 1 - Orange-decorated mojitos at La Trattoria Toscana

As all of you know, in Mojitop we normally test bars and mojitos in Barcelona. However, sometimes we like to travel and check the quality of the mojitos in other places, and also the different rituals (for example at what time) according to which they are drunk.

A week ago, we went to Milano to visit a friend, and we were 3 mojiexperts, which in fact qualifies for an official evaluation. So we did it! But of course you won't see this in the official ranking (in the left bar), because even if they were good, they're not in Barcelona.

So, here comes the (un)official review:
Address: Corso Porta Ticinese 58, Milano (Italy)

In one of the crowded streets of Milan's nightlife, some friends drove us to the Trattoria Toscana. From the outside it is difficult to see, but it is a huge restaurant and bar. The trick is (I suppose it's due to the Italian stringent smoking restrictions), to find the bar one had to cross several rooms and corridors, to finally get to some kind of huge inner yard, half-roofed.

And this is the description of the mojito in la Trattoria Toscana:
- White rum Pampero
- Dark rum Bacardí
- Fresh lime
- Fresh mint
- Soda
- White sugar
- With 2 cherries! (that's something we had also seen in a bar in Barcelona)
- With a big orange straw
- Decorated with a folded orange napkin, which worked nice as insulation between the cold drink and the warm hands
- Big glass
- It costed 7 €

The evaluation was mixed, because the 3 mojitos we had were quite different (=1 of them was not very good). In average, it got a great 7.18 (out of maximum 10 points; evaluated by 3 mojiexperts and our Italian friend).

If the quality of the mojitos would have been more homogeneous, the evaluation would have been much better, because the mojitos that were good were really good. Besides, the looks were quite impressing, all decorated in orange.

Lessons learnt:
  1. orange matches green
  2. usually the mojitos with 2 rums are stronger (alcoholic-wise) than those with only one. We think that it's not because of the mix, but because the waiters pour more in liquid in the same time.
  3. great mojitos in Italy too, we can start a new mojitop/milano there when we finish with all the bars in Barcelona
